There is a search bar at the top of the page that displays search results. At the far left of that bar is the box in which the search phrase is typed, and the Go button. At the far left of that bar are drop-down controls for the search field and for the type of media. Possibly a drop-down for sort type could be placed in that bar.
Perhaps only a single drop-down control for sort is needed, and the drop-down for direction of sort can be eliminated. IMHO, the default sort direction for Publication Date should descending, with the most recent publications at the top. The navigation bar allows the user to go immediately to the last page of results if the user wants to see the oldest publications.
Another consideration is to apply the sort immediately, after the user makes a selection from the Sort drop-down control, instead of waiting for the user to click Go. I don't have a strong feeling about that.
