[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Default Z39.50

Hi there,
Just wondering if Kevin ever figured out how to connect to the Z39.50.
I am having problems trying to connect to the LoC. In osrfsys.log it
says z39.50: Unable to connect to Z server: z3950.loc.gov:7090:Voyager::
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks
John

Hi Kevin:

Right. I only ask because I have run into this issue in the past with
our current ILS; some of our consortial partners run inside an
extremely secure network, to the point that Z39.50 connections were
getting blocked. If the Z39.50 client in Marc Edit is running on the
same machine as Evergreen, that would effectively rule out the
firewall as being the issue. And I have successfully used the LC
Z39.50 target for cataloging with no username or password in the
Gentoo VMWare image for Evergreen.

Also, note the <z3950> entries in /openils/conf/opensrf.xml; there's a
comment that actually says that a username / password is not required
for LoC. This is also the place where you could add your own Z39.50
targets.

Next up, assuming you've ruled out the firewall issue: check the
/openils/var/log/osrfsys.log file for any suspicious error messages.
