[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Undeleting Records and features on Buckets

Thanks Jason and Dan. Seems straightforward, it just isn't on our(SC
LENDS) list of individual permissions available at present.

Re buckets, I'd like to be able to delete a few selected (not all), or
see item status, do edit item attributes, on highlighted ones only.

"You mean you'd like for the various "batch" actions to have the option
of being selective rather than automatically affecting everything within
the bucket?

Hey Marlene,

It's only looking for the UPDATE_RECORD permission when you go to
un-delete a record. It'd be a one-line code change to add a more
specific permission.

Right now, records don't have owners, so the depth/level of the
permission shouldn't matter.

However, a future version of Evergreen (I'm not sure when) will
optionally allow for library ownership of specific bib records, so it
may be worth giving some thought to those levels ahead of time.

Hi Marlene:

You need to have the UPDATE_RECORD permission to undelete records. This
was added to the default cataloguer's permission group fairly recently
for new Evergreen installs, but your administrator should be able to add
it at whatever level makes sense for your system.

No, even before I even get to deciding what I want to do with the
contents of the buckets. For me, I can pull up a title and usually just
by eyeballing guess that there is at least 4 or 5 records that will
match from the initial screen. I'd like to be able to click a check box
and load them into a record bucket rather than open each to get to the
"actions for this record."

For example, do an advanced search limited to books, "swimsuit"
"patterson" and group formats. You get 8 results. You have a good shot
of guessing from the title screen results that items 2,5, 7 and 8 could
be merged based on title, author, publisher, copyright, page number and
size. If from that screen you could just click little boxes and load a
record bucket for merges it would go a lot faster than opening each and
clicking "actions for this record"
It is faster to eliminate non-mergable items from the display screen
once you click "merge" than to open each record and load it to the
bucket by clicking "actions for this record" "add to bucket" etc.

Now it is highly possible that there is a faster way that I just don't
know about.

You mean you'd like for the various "batch" actions to have the option
of being selective rather than automatically affecting everything
within the bucket?

Hi Jason,

No, I haven't. I'm just the cataloger at WJU, and Jeff, our IT guy who
did our data migration and Evergreen installation, just accepted a job
elsewhere. Has anyone else had trouble with importing authority records
in 1.4.0.6? Will upgrading to 1.6 solve this?

Thanks,
Chris

Levani, I believe this is harmless. See

That looks like you're running an older version of EG. The latest
stable releases should provide a working Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete/Select
All context menu when you right-click in those fields. Not sure what
it would take to provide a list of valid values like we do for the
subfields elsewhere.

Hilary,

This is the link you're looking for:

I've updated the splash page for demo.gapines.org accordingly.

Would folks find it useful to have buckets that just cannot have
duplicates (in math-speak, they'd be Sets)? Is anyone relying on the
ability to have duplicates?

Hi Mary, you may have EG configured to auto-delete bib records when
the last item is removed.

If that's the case, the only way you can retrieve that record for
undeletion is via its TCN or record ID, or if it is still referenced
in a bucket or bookbag, or if you can find a past circulation
involving the item you deleted.

You could run a report for recently deleted records and grab the
record id from it.

Okay, here are some of the libraries conceivably involved:

1) patron home lib
2) staff home lib
3) workstation lib (where the circulation took place)
4) item's "circ lib", which is where the item tends to transit to upon
checkin if not being grabbed for a hold
5) item's "owning lib" via the callnumber/volume
6) circulation's "circ lib" field (which will be the same as the
workstation lib)

Any of these things you can get at and count, but I think the simplest
option is 6, and that's likely what most circ reports will be
defaulting to (source: Circulation -> Circulating Library).

In order to get the owning lib, you'd need your reports to look at
something like:

Circulation -> Circulating Item -> Call Number/Volume -> Owning Library

Jason,

Personally, there are other problems with buckets that are much more
pressing that I would rather have handled than this.
