[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Innovative uses of RFID

I promised I'd summarize and report back. I heard from perhaps a dozen
libraries and 2 RFID vendors.

Of innovative uses suggested, one library takes inventory of collections
frequently to demonstrate to their board and constituency the value of
the collection which they verify is actually on shelf as well as the
value of the missing items they are able to locate and bring back into
the system.

Another library's staff slip tags into colleagues coats and bags to
cause embarrassment as they leave the building.

All the rest responded with some version of "We're thinking about RFID,
too, so please share." Clearly there's much interest out there.

If you missed this initial post over the holiday, feel free to send
along your ideas for innovative uses of RFID in libraries, something you
won't read about in the brochures.

Also, if you're really seriously thinking about implementing RFID in the
next three years and willing to do some out-of-the-box thinking
regarding a project we're working on, I'd love to hear from you as well.

Thanks!
Marla
