I prefer *BSD over Linux for servers, and that's generally what we try
to do here at the consortium where I work. We have not tried
installing Evergreen on FreeBSD since the 1.4 release. Back in those
days it was a non-starter because there were too many extra tools and
too much code in Evergreen that either made Linux-only system calls or
assumed Linux semantics in system calls.
If someone wants to throw $1,000 at me, I'll set up a server at home
to work on getting Evergreen and associated bits and pieces to work on
FreeBSD.
