For #1: in Item -> Call Number/Volume -> Bib Record -> Simple Record Extracts -> Publication Year (normalized) to limit use Filter
For #2:
Use a different circ modifier for the new items e.g. NEW BOOK and put in your circulation policies to allow no renewals for this modifier. After a certain time the items would need to be changed to a circ modifier that allows renewals
OR
I think renewals for items on hold, was happening when we migrated to v1.4.0.2. This was something we had corrected/changed for our consortium It may be a setting or something that needs to be determined change with script.

1. I'd like limit one of my reports by copyright date but I can't seem
to find the source code for that (strange I know). Could someone please tell me where to find it?
2. We're obviously missing something in our permissions because our
version (1.6.0.0) is allowing renewals on items that have holds and we don't want to do that. In 25 words or less, can anyone tell me what we're doing wrong? Thanks so much! :-)

We have a question. Is it possible to work with different character sets
in one database? For example Cyrillic alphabet, Chinese characters
together with the Latin alphabet. If not how to deal with this?

Yes, if you can get it into a MARC record (via MARC8 or UTF8) then you
can use it in Evergreen. Unicode gets used for everything from
database to client.
