[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] cataloging question

Kathryn,

What is the record colliding on? Title control number? (PINES only collides on TCNm we have ver 1.4.0.7)? What source are the records?

PINES is sole source (OCLC) for our bib records. So if there is a collision and the records are radically different, that means someone edited a record in a manner to make it match the item in hand. Or the record in OCLC was edited (perhaps from a CIP with enough different info to make it look like a different item). Either way, our procedure is to overlay with the new record and, if it is not a change from the CIP, to inform the library with holdings attached that they need to move their item record if it in fact does not match the newer OCLC record.

We would not bring in a record anyway. There is a way to do it, but it has been disabled for PINES libraries. Perhaps it is a setting you can change, if your library's needs are different.

Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] cataloging question

Hi,

Our system just migrated to Evergreen about 10 days ago. I've run into a "problem" and hope someone can help me. What do you do if when importing a record, the record collides with an existing record, BUT you want to add the new record anyway? How do you force the import without overlaying the existing record? In this case, the new record and the existing record are for 2 completely different titles.

Thanks for any help.

Kathryn
