Correcting myself: the 505 loaded into the record. The 520 did not. I don't
understand why not.

Subject: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bib record overlaying woes

Hi,

I'm struggling with how to make incoming records overlay existing records in
the database using Vandelay within the client. I thought I had it, but it's
not working for me again, at least not consistently.

The TCN in the records I'm testing is the OCLC number. I've tried importing
edited bibs from our old system, which of course have the matching OCLC
number, but although the Evergreen loader sees the collision, the overlay
does not take place.

I have a merge profile set up, but it doesn't seem to be used during the
load. For instance, I have tag 029 listed in the Remove Specification, but
when I loaded a new record (no collision involved) with 029s, they all
stayed in the record.

I have tags such as 590 and 690 in the Add Specification, but when I try
overlaying a bib, the tag never gets added. I tried a record downloaded from
OCLC, adding a 590. The record also had a 520 not found in the Evergreen
record. That time, I had partial success: the 520 added to the bib, but the
590 did not. Do I have to define the 590 tag somewhere for Evergreen to
accept it in a load?

Also, is there a place where I can define record match points? We usually
want only the OCLC number, but there are occasions when the 020 and 024
would be appropriate.

Thanks,

Mary
