If users could grab a book and use their library app on their smart phone to
check themselves out...that would be cool.

Or what about adding items to your library account wish list or book bag?

If could read the bar code and end up with an ISBN number, that opens up
lots of possibilities for finding online resources that could be helpful
(buy the book, find the book in another library, get an ebook version).
