[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] [Evergreen-web-team] adding a page to the wiki

Hello, everybody. My name is Alex (Alexey) Lazar. I recently started at PALS, located at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN, USA. I will be involved with Evergreen. Previously, I worked as a website developer responsible for various aspects of design, code and information architecture of www.mnsu.edu.
In my experience, there are always several ways to present information, based on intended audience, topic or other schemes. For example, developing code for Evergreen is certainly a contribution, and developers are members of the community and they communicate.
I signed up for this mailing list just a few days ago. It was easy to find the information I needed under "Communicate". It would have been just as easy to find it under "Community", which is a more broad term. Same would probably be true if I was looking for user group information.
For what my input is worth at this point, changing the term sounds like a good idea, if not for any reason other than it's a familiar, standard term commonly used on open-source project websites.
As far as reorganizing the Evergreen site, that's probably a separate topic altogether, maybe the next phase. When reorganizing a site, it's best to start by defining goals, before any specific solutions or changes are even considered.

I guess that's when Anoop setup Piwik to begin tracking data, cause it looks like we have web stats from May 2011 forward on the new server. Personally Piwik > Webalizer. :)

> RE: original topic (might be time for a new thread?)... I can add a new link, but feel obliged to point out that renaming existing links to pages may require further scrutiny of the associated pages those links point to. We'll need to carefully review what the link currently is named, what page it's pointing to, and what changes need to be made to the page in order to accommodate the new link name. Or alternatively, compose entirely new page information for certain new concepts. An example of that is that I think there would need to be a "Community" landing page that incorporates some short summary of what the Evergreen Community is about and how the various other pages tie into it (Mailing List, etc.). Probably easily adapted from the current Communicate page, but this would have to be done for each menu link renamed for consistency.

This doesn't necessarily mean people are clicking through the menu to these pages (we don't see to have specific actions setup for tracking yet as "Goals"), but it might be a general indication of what people are looking at most often for a given time period (by default it shows you the current date).

There are non-developers who participate or just lurk in IRC, and I wouldn’t want to discourage other non-developers from doing the same. It’s also used for DIG, reports task force, and community meetings, so I would say the audience goes beyond developers.
