Not with Evergreen, but yes, I've used a single LVS host.  I don't have 
a specific resource, and some quick Googling didn't turn up what I 
remember using when I got started.

 From your notes, the ipvsadm output displayed suggests that the Apache 
hosts are listening, at least on their local addresses.

When you say you're not getting redirected.  Have you verified that with 
something like: tcpdump port 80
Have you verified that they are also listening for traffic on the 
virtual address?  (172.29.120.84:80  or  *:80)

If the tcpdump doesn't see any traffic arriving, then it's likely a 
problem with the ldirectord host.  If it is, then you've likely got an 
Apache, or network issue on the web servers.
