[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Need Captions and Patterns advice for Jet Magazine

Hello all,

Yes, we are using the nonstandard 'l' pattern value in production. I think we have just one subscription which is 'every three weeks', and as far as I am aware, the code works fine with that line in Date.pm uncommented.

I wasn't sure at the time if there was a different, better way to code this type of pattern, but if we are still wondering two years later, I would agree that we should simply add it as a supported, nonstandard option.

Dan

Hi Mary and Erica (and Dan),

I can think of two possible ways forward on this right now:

1) Search Z39.50 sources for somebody's else MARC records of Jet magazine. Look in any records you find for 853 tags. It's conceivable to me that a cataloger somewhere has found a clever way to express a triweekly pattern indirectly even though the MFHD standard doesn't specify a direct representation for that. Such an 853 could be turned into an Evergreen caption and pattern if it exists.

2) I think Dan Wells was toying with adding some super-secret nonstandard triweekly prediction logic to Evergreen in commit 0bdfc37cda by inventing a value of l for pattern subfield $w, to represent triweekly. Dan, are you by any chance running with this at your site (although in Evergreen proper the line is commented out)?
If so, I would totally support elevating this hack to a feature. This
*could* lead to a situation where we have a new choice in the frequency dropdown for triweekly, and everything becomes simple. But I'm not sure yet about any possibly underlying difficulties with the logic, or any problems Dan may have already run into.

Thanks all!

Lebbeous
