[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] spine label printers

Mark, can you send the specifics about the Non-fading labels?

We find that the Dymo labels do fade if they are in direct sunlight for an
extended period of time. If the item is shelved where it gets no sunlight,
then they are great, and will last. But the ones that are next to windows,
they are fading even with UV protected tape.

Dymo labels do fade over time, but you can buy special non-fading labels. We
like the 450's, but sometimes label tracking in the printer can get off.
Make sure the sides on the spindle are as tight to the roll of labels as you
can get it ('squeeze the snot out of it', I tell our librarians) and it will
be fine. And labels can get stuck. Never try to pull the labels back
through. The printer can be dissembled but it's no fun.

Ours still look good, too. We do cover them with Scotch 845 book tape which
is UV-resistant, so that might help.

I think 5 years is probably long term where most items are concerned.
Reports I heard were that the labels faded too much within a year.

We started using the Dymos about five years ago and the labels we printed
then still look nice and dark. Really long term I don't know.

How do the labels hold up printed on the Dymo printers? I have heard reports
that they fade faster than others.

+1 on the Dymo Label Writer 450s. We have both the Duo and the Turbo, love
both of them.

We use Dymo Labelwriter 450s. They're inexpensive, easy to setup, work well,
and are compatible with multiple OSs.

Cheers!

Our spine label printer has officially retired. We need to replace it as
soon as possible. I've seen the survey that was taken on printers before the
last upgrade; however the last upgrade did not work well with our microline.
What I need to know is which printers have worked well since the upgrade.
Any and all information on the printers you are using and how they work with
Evergreen at this point would be greatly appreciated.
