I don't read it that way.  Amy was clear that she was speaking for herself
and Kathy as individuals,' not for the conference committee.  I have a
vague memory of some fund raising at a past event for some cause also but
that memory may be faulty since I can't remember which or for what.

For myself I see this as very much in line with the project as the project
put out a related statement.  It really would be up to the project not the
conference committee since the conference committee implements the
conference each year but it's the project's conference.
