Interesting discussion, and some good ideas.

My immediate problem of having libraries who wanted to turn off this 
behavior entirely was solved by Jason and Kathy's advise.  We removed 
the information just for the generic classification scheme in 
asset.call_number_class and set the default classification scheme to 
generic for libraries that do not want to auto-populate the call number.

I'm glad that with the help of the community something I thought we 
couldn't do yesterday we were able to fix this morning!  Thanks!
