Thank you Libby and Kathy!

By default I mean the call number that shows in the OPAC. Sometimes it shows the Dewey number sometimes a partial LC number.

Hi all,

We are just starting to familiarize ourselves with Evergreen. We are having a few issues with batch importation. Three questions:

How do we import records as Available and not In Process?
How do we import records to show they have a copy?
How do we make it so that the default call number is taken from the 090 field? Currently the 050 or 082 field are used, once those are deleted the 090 field is shown but not the entire number. The Cutter number gets dropped.

Thanks,

Meredith Lowe

Hi Meredith,

We created an Import Item Attribute Definition in Marc Batch Import/Export that creates items upon import based on field data in the incoming bibliographic records. The status name must be present in one of the subfields and the call number for the items in another. We asked one of our vendors to add a 945 field with barcode number in subfield $i, call number in subfield $a, short code for circulating library and owning library in subfield $l, circulation modifier in subfield $t, price in subfield $p, shelving location code in subfield $k, and status in subfield $s. We mapped each subfield in the Import Item Attribute Definition. The bibliographic record has one 945 field for each item. The 945 field looks something like this:

945 \\$i<barcode>$p <price> $l <short branch code> $t <circ modifier> $k <shelving location code> $s Available $a <Call Number>

I don't know how to map the call number directly from the bib record 090 field. We have the vendor copy it to the 945 field.

I hope this helps,

Libby McLean

Hi Meredith,

Welcome to the Evergreen community! To follow up on Libby's e-mail, I just wanted to mention that there is some documentation for the Import Item Attribute Definition interface at http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.3/_importing_materials_in_the_staff_client.html#_import_item_attributes.

Regarding your question about the 090 field, the local systems I work with make very little use of the bib call number. However, when you say default call number, are you talking about the call number that displays in the OPAC?
