[Evergreen-catalogers] Creating/Editing/Deleting Bibliographic Templates

Donald Butterworth,

A solution you could use now is a macro program. We are using Macro Express. We have not yet migrated to Evergreen from our Voyager ILS, but we have been assured that Macro Express works well in Evergreen. I believe that some people in SC Lends use it. It is very easy to use and the macros that one person creates can be shared with others. I happen to use it to add a 541 note among many other things. Since it is a macro program you can do more complicated things if you wish to learn, or you can keep it simple.

Thanks,
Vicki

Sorry to have missed the conference and the MASHCAT session. (Heath issues)
Like unto templates ... something else to add to the wishlist are "constant data" templates. For example, we are now adding a 541 field (Immediate source of acquisition note) so that we can easily run reports on gift books added to our collection. (Mandate from on-high administrators) We would like to be able, from the staff client, to apply a constant data record to an open bib record. Of course we would also want to be able to change the text in the template for each gift collection, in the staff client.
I imagine there would be lots of other uses for constant data templates besides adding 541 fields. Whatchyathink?

Hello,

I just wanted to add that my catalogers have always wanted to have authority templates. A related request is the ability to create a new authority directly without needing to use a bib record as a jumping off point.

BTW, a few years ago I had created a wiki page to list information on authorities, including a wishlist, bugs and bug fixes.

http://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=authorities#development_ideas_wishlist

I can provide access to the wiki if you want to make additions to this page, or I can make edits in your behalf.

Thanks,
Yamil

Hi, Sharon, and everyone else!

If I understand correctly, you're asking that it be possible to add/edit/remove bibliographic record templates in the staff client. I think that is a great idea.

For that to happen, the templates would need to be moved into the database. As it stands now, they live in a directory under the same area where the OPAC templates reside.

You also must edit a configuration file and restart a couple of Evergreen services for new templates to show up on the list or for old ones to go away.

That process is cumbersome and cannot be done by staff who do not also have direct access to your Evergreen servers.

My apologies if that was covered in the MASHCAT presentation.

As usual, there is a Launchpad bug saying that the above move should be done:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1131238

I don't believe any progress has been made in that direction, and certainly not by me. I often open wishlist bugs with the intention of working on them some day, when time permits.

Hope that Helps,
Jason

Good Morning,

At the Evergreen International Conference last week, I asked for the
following change during the MASHCAT IN EVERGREEN program.

Please respond if you also feel this change is needed.

I think it will help those making this change to know how much interest
there is, and the specifics about the change if we have them.

Creating/Editing/Deleting Bibliographic Templates
