Good Morning,

I agree with everyone who expressed the importance of having a better
understanding of catalog searching and retrieving. It also has the pleasant
side effect of helping staff gain a better understanding of their ILS as a
whole, such as "Why doesn't the Bib Call # always match our local call
number?" "What is the record database id, and where does this information
live?" "What is this option to Retrieve Bib Record by TCN? What's the
significance of the TCN?" Regarding the item record, understanding the
various fields within the item record interface helps staff to better
understand the Item Status Detail View. I've worked with staff migrating
their special collections, who have limited cataloging experience; this
requires us to take the conversation back to the basic elements/
differences between Meta, Bib, "Volume" / Item (holdings) level
information, and their interdependence.
