[Evergreen-general] Chromebox for computer labs?

We’ve been using Groovix for all of that for about 15 years.
(We don’t have reservations, but it is there if we wanted to.)
Most of that time we’ve run it on tiny micro-PCs of one kind or another. (Asus EEEBox, Optiplex Micro, Zotac ZBox, etc)
Been very happy with it… probably the best customer support of any vendor we’ve had for anything.

Incidentally, I have it installed on a Chromebox (connected to a touchscreen and Jamex money collection machine) in a particular mode as a print release station. So I suppose we do have exactly one Chromebox here, albeit for a very niche use, in an atypical configuration. (Installing something other than Chrome on a Chromebox does require a bit of hoop jumping.)

We have discussed perhaps going with Chromebooks (and associated management tools) if we were to provide laptops for take-home checkouts. But not to replace our on-site public workstations and laptops.

Hi Kevin,

In some of our libraries they utilize Google Workspace to manage their Chromebook/Chromebox devices and we use the Envisionware CloudNine Reservation service for managing use. We use the Envisionware LPTOne MobilePrint product for print management.

Thanks,
Anne

Greetings from Alaska!

General library tech question: Anyone out there have any experience using chromebox machines in their public computer labs? What are folks using for printing and session management?

We’re using PC’s + Cassie + Deepfreeze, but looking out for wisdom and future solutions.

Thanks all,
