[Evergreen-governance-l] Software Freedom Conservancy application

Hi folks:

I plan to submit the application to the Software Freedom Conservancy
sometime this weekend. This will still be in time for their September
deadline. 

We don't have to have the by-laws finished, as the SFC normally works
out the finer points of governance rules with member organizations after
they have been accepted. We're probably way ahead of most projects in
terms of tackling some of the larger questions, so the work we've been
doing and the discussions we've been having should only help. It would
be good to get the proposed structure out into the open community soon.

One of the outstanding questions is whether we will donate a percentage
of our funds to the SFC. I would like to propose a 1% donation in the
first year, to be revisited after the first year (at the same time we
might revisit our membership in the SFC and consider our own 501(c)(3)).

A number of people have offered to help with the open questions listed
at
http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=governance:software_freedom_conservancy_membership_application and asked me what I want them to do. To my discredit, I haven't answered them, but the big questions are:

  * Have you ever had funds held by the project, or by any individual on
behalf of the projects?  How and for what did you spend those funds?

 - I'm not sure if Evergreen under the wing of GPLS counts; I suspect
not.

  * Brief history of the project, including past governance decisions.

 - It would be nice to have more than what's in
http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=faqs:evergreen_faq_1 if
anyone has the time or energy or interest in telling our story.

  * Existing for-profit or non-profit affiliations, funding
relationships, or other agreements that the project or its leaders have
with other organizations.

  - Do we talk about RSCEL and other such affiliations here ? How about
the cost-sharing development agreements for things like hard due dates?

So if you're one of the people who offered to help out, the best thing
to do would be to jump right into the wiki and start fleshing out the
answers in the areas with which you have the most familiarity.
