Two quick things to check in your openils.xml config file:

1. Make sure the <hosts> section at the bottom of the file contains an entry
for your hostname as defined by "hostname -f"

2. Make sure the configuration settings for the "opensrf.settings"
application have <stateless>1</stateless>

Let me know if those help.

Sounds great.  I'm a FreeBSD fan myself, so I'll be curious to see how it
goes.
