Other things to try include importing a record via z39.50 and creating
a record from scratch in the MARC editor, adding items, and seeing if
those are search-able.  Also, try opening up an existing record in the
MARC editor and then saving it.  Also useful is seeing if there is a
difference between staff and public OPACs.  This might fill in more of
the picture.
