Thanks to a recent commit from Mike Rylander, the first problem
(record wasn't being saved successfully) is resolved. Many thanks,
Mike!

The second problem (save operation failed, but success was reported)
probably needs deeper inspection along the error-handling chain, but
that might be outside of the scope for 1.6.
