[OPEN-ILS-DEV] Evergreen installtion problems

I got Evergreen 1.6.0.4 with OpenSRF 1.2.2 running on Debian 5.0.1 with
a little help from the live chat interface (also available via the
"Chat" link on the open-ils.org home page):
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=evergreen
Prior to getting it running on Debian 5.0.1, I tried RedHat 5.1. That
simply wasn't working and I eventually gave up. For instructions, I
used the README in the 1.6.0.4 distribution and this web page (which is
basically an updated HTML version of the README):
http://open-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=server:1.6.0:install
I agree that the instructions are not complete, but I didn't take notes
during my installation so I can't say for sure what steps are
wrong/different/missing. For the most part, I just worked through each
problem as I came to it. But my experience with getting help was
different than yours. I only used the chat room for support and even
then only needed to use it twice. But both times resulted in quick a
pointed help. It might require you to upload a log file or two. And
even though I signed up for this email list, I never used it so can't
really comment on whether it is a good source of help. Other solutions
were found during numerous web searches.
You will definitely need to get more detailed about what is not
working. Nothing will annoy free support folks more than a call for
help that amounts to nothing more than "it doesn't work". For starters,
try grepping for the string ERR in /openils/var/log/ (i.e. "grep -r ERR
/openils/var/log).
Good luck...
