Hello Marjolein,
The Alternate Serial Control interface is conceptually tied to the Batch
Receive interface by certain assumptions shared by each. The Batch Receive
interface may fare better in receiving items set up in the Alternate Serial
Control than the the regular Serial Control view's receiving tab.
Right now, the main disparity in the assumptions of each set of interfaces
is that in Alternate Serial Control and Batch Receive, call numbers aren't
applied until receive time, and then only if copy-equivalent (read
"barcoded") units are created by user choice. In the Serial Control View's
model of things, a call number has to be applied to the distribution, and
items of all issuances that are predicted or created within that
distribution will share the same call number.
I hope that helps. Indeed, this is one of those areas where future work in
serials will hopefully give us a chance to reconcile differing serials
models so things can work more smoothly.
