[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] what data do I pull from for a circ by subject report

Renewals are circs so that shouldn't be an issue.

If I'm understanding what you're looking for correctly you're going to want
to connect from the circulation data source to the copy and from there to
the call number and the call number label will have your dewey call
numbers.
I don't think you'll need to pull from the MARC for this.
