[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Z39.50 Index Field Maps and the Local Catalog--can you help?

Hi Tony,

For Part 1, your logic is correct, though when doing the search you
may or may not want cataloguers to be selecting the drop-down to say
"visual materials". Depending on the accuracy of the existing
cataloguing this may actually filter out results they want to see. I
am guessing that the Format drop down menu is based on character 6 of
the Leader.

Once the search is done staff can select a local result and chose
"Show in Catalogue" and then add their holding. I think it really
depends on the library/cataloguer (and what permissions they have been
granted) whether they start their search from the catalogue or start
from Z39.50. Our libraries do both. The important part is to remember
to select Local Catalogue in Z39.50.

I have no idea about Part 2.

Hope this helps,

Jennifer
