[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Hatch and printing

Thanks for all the great information.
This explains a lot.
I did have one more issue that is not in your information.
When I first installed hatch in chrome I started having issues.
I opened Firefox and was able to login, but after I login I get the top header/Main Menus with search, circulation, cataloging, etc.
The area below is blank and when I click on anything nothing shows below no matter which menu I try and click on even though it appears active.

I then uninstalled hatch which was what started the problem. (It did work before that)
I have tried clearing Cache,
I finely uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it which worked.

Subject: Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Hatch and printing

Hi, Bill and Jennifer:

Our consortium recently upgraded to the web client at the end of May, (3.0.8 for us). Because of the change to a browser environment, there were a few nuances that came with the upgrade, (most related to printing and Hatch). Over the last months, our consortium has created a variety of documents to help with browser setup and maintenance that I have dubbed "Browser-based information I wish I knew before we upgraded to the web client".

I know some of the information will be specific to us, but please feel free a take a look and use it as inspiration if desired. The attached documents include...

  * Creating Chrome Profiles - We found many libraries like using Google Chrome profile to make using and accessing the web client easier.
  * Creating Bookmarks - Simple guide for creating bookmarks and folders in Chrome for the web client.
  * Other Chrome Settings - Guide on how to make the web client Chrome's homepage, etc
  * Do I Need Hatch? - Short document on why Hatch is needed. My personal recommendation would be to only use Hatch if absolutely necessary.
  * Install and Use Hatch - Guide on installing, using, and troubleshooting Hatch. I've bolded this as this may be the most relevant to you, Bill. In my experience, your white screen issue is most likely related to a bad installation of one of the components.
  * Fixing Stuck Preferences - If Hatch is used to store local settings, we have had reports of certain settings becoming "stuck". This explains how to fix the setting when that happens.
  * Auto-Printing Alternatives - Chrome and Firefox have simplistic built-in auto-print options that may be useful if Hatch is giving you trouble.

And, Bill,

Your initial issue where the receipt keeps printing is probably because headers/footers are checked on the print dialog. We find unchecking this setting fixes this problem. Here are all the receipt printer settings we recommend to our libraries not using Hatch:

I don’t think I like it already.
I tried to install the hatch extension and now both browsers (Chrome and Firefox) come up blank when I login.

Hi Bill,

I am very curious and eager to follow your experience testing 3.1. I am in Davidson County and I will begin testing next week but I haven't worked through any of the installation troubles, yet.

The Evergreen Documentation Interest Group has developed Hatch Install Documentation: https://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/install/INSTALL_Hatch.html
Again, I haven't tried it and cannot speak from experience but their documentation is generally quite helpful.

Thanks for being a leader on this and inspiring me to get started.

Best,
Jennifer

We will be starting with the 3.1 web version in October and I have the test web and software version of 3.1 installed.
I was trying to print and it says that hatch is not installed and printing must be configured via the native browser print configuration.
I have the printer setup for the 2.12 software version and it prints ok, but when I try and print with the web version it just keeps printing.
We are using all Start TSP 847 printers.
I have never used Hatch and don’t know what to do to set it up to test.
Help please?
Thanks
